Tourism in Paris



"Tourism" in the modern sense of the word did not reach a large number until the railroad came in the course of the 1840s. One of the first attractions was, since 1855, a series of expositions, occasions that served the building of numerous new monuments in Paris, of which the most famous is the Eiffel Tower, erected for the exhibition in 1889. These monuments, added embellishments brought to the capital during the Second Empire, largely contributed to the attraction of the city in which she has become.

The main tourist attractions are:

* The Eiffel Tower - built in 1889, was initially planned to stand at just 20 years, is currently considered the main symbol of the city.
* The Champs-Elysees, a famous avenue and often full of tourists, which means the Champs Elysees. One of the widest avenues in the world, and one of the most famous.
* The Arc de Triomphe - built by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1806 in honor of the French victories, and those who died on the battlefield.
* The Louvre Museum - home to the famous Mona Lisa
* The Cathedral of Notre-Dame - the famous Gothic cathedral located in downtown
* The Pantheon - an ancient church, famous for the remains of several famous French.
* The Orsay Museum - Museum brings together an important collection of Impressionist and was once a train station. With its deactivation, was almost demolished, but for the protests was transformed into a museum.
* The Palace of Versailles - located in the city of Versailles, the largest tourist attraction in the world. Built by Louis XIV to house all the court, described the power, glory and wealth of the Sun King (Louis XIV)
* Disneyland Resort Paris - Disney tourist complex conglomerate containing various entertainment options including multithematic two parks, Disneyland and Walt Disney Studios. Located in Marne-la-Vallée (Paris suburb) is the most visited attraction in Europe, attracting 12.4 million visitors in 2004 alone.
* L'Hôtel de Ville - City Hall of Paris. Besides having a distinctive French architecture, exudes luxury and wealth in every detail.
* The Moulin Rouge - Former cabaret used for the amusement of French in relation to the French who worked there. Today used as a tourist spot.
